Flamex PF fabric fireproof coating is a specially designed chemical preparation for treating several kinds of textiles in order to diminish their flammability and slow down the flame spread. It has been developed for improving safety to fabrics and so improving their ignition resistance, thereby reducing such accidents related to fire.
How Does Flamex PF function?
When the material approaches a flame or heat source, Flamex PF reacts to the temperature rise and releases chemicals into the ignition source, immediately quenching the fire before it can spread further. This technology guarantees that Flamex PF-treated textiles and fabrics conform to the highest possible standards of safety.
Benefits of Using Flamex PF:
Additional Safety: Flamex PF provides an extra layer of safety with regard to fabrics, as it minimizes chances of accidents related to fire. Compliance: Flamex PF-treated fabrics will meet industry safety standards and legislation on flame retardance. Flexibility: Flamex PF applies to the widest variety of textiles-from garments to draperies and upholstery—hence a solution for all applications.
Lasting Protection: The fire prevention system will remain attached to the substrate once applied.
By treating these textiles with Flamex PF, you can ensure that your home, office, or event space is safe from fire hazards and meets the necessary safety requirements. In conclusion, Flamex PF is a must-have product for anyone looking to enhance the safety and protection of their textiles. FAQ’s
Is Flamex PF durable?
No, Flamex PF provides long-lasting protection for your fabrics until they are wet washed once or dry cleaned more than twice.
Can I wash fabrics treated with Flamex PF?
No, if the treated fabric is washed, Flamex PF must be reapplied.
Is Flamex PF compatible with all types of fabrics?
No. Flamex PF is suitable for a wide range of porous and semi-porous fabrics only, and it’s always best to test it on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility. Cannot be used on 100% silk, nylon, vinyl, and other non-porous fibers.
Does Flamex PF have a strong odor?
It has a slight ammonia odor when wet, which dissipates once dry
How long will the treatment last?
If the treated material and stored in a humidity controlled environment, and has not been washed or dry-cleaned, the treatment can last the lifetime of the material
How is Flamex PF applied?
- Make sure that the material has been washed or vacuumed to remove dust.
- Apply with a device that’s capable of spraying a thin liquid or by completely immersing it.
- When applying, start in the upper left corner and apply Flamex PF across from end to end.
- Continue working your way down and across while overlapping each pass.
- After treating one side of the material, confirm that the opposite side is damp.
- If the first side did not penetrate through, repeat the application to the opposite side, especially on thicker material.
- Eliminate any folds in order for air to dry the treatment thoroughly.
- Do not use on fully synthetic/non-porous textiles.
What Can Flamex PF Be Used On?
Flamex PF can be used on all types of fabrics and textiles, including:
- Garments
- Draperies
- Upholstered seating
- Furniture
- Curtains
- Bedding
So there you have it! Flamex PF is your ultimate ally in the fight against fabric fires. With its powerful formula and easy application, you can protect your fabrics with ease and ensure their safety.
Identifying Fabric Fibers:
You can learn about fabric content by doing basic burn tests. Take some threads from your fabric and put them in small dishes. Light them with a match. Watch how they burn and smell. Look at what’s left after burning. Check these results against the guide below. This test isn’t perfect but it helps identify different materials. Pay attention to how the threads react when they catch fire.
FIBER | REACTION TO FLAME | ODOR | RESIDUE |
---|---|---|---|
Cotton | Ignites and burns with Orange-yellow flame | Burning paper | Grey Ash |
Linen | Same as cotton | Burning paper | Grey Ash |
Wool | Burns slowly with small Sizzling flame Usually self-extinguishing |
Burning hair | Crisp, irregular, crushable black bead |
Silk | Ignites sparking flame Usually self-extinguishing | Burning hair Not as pungent as wool | Crisp, round, black bead that is crushable |
Rayon | Ignites readily Burns rapidly Sizzles slightly | Burning paper More pungent than cotton | Grayish-black ash |
Acetate Triacetate | Ignites and sizzles Melts as it burns Has orange flame | Acid odor, like vinegar | Hard, irregular black bead |
Nylon | Shrinks from heat; melts Bums with difficulty | Celery | Hard, round, gray or fawn-colored bead |
Acrylic | Melts as it burns Fuses as flame is approached Bright sputtering flame Black smoke |
Acid-like | Hard, irregular black bead |
Polyester | Fuses and shrinks from flame Bums slowly; melting Self-extinguishing |
Heavy pungent | Hard, brownish beige bead |

How To Perform Fabric Field Burn Test?

You can do a basic fire test on fabrics in the field based on NFPA 701 rules. The test works by holding a flame to the fabric for 12 seconds. After that, the fabric needs to stop burning within 2 seconds. It should not burn more than 4 inches of material. Any drips that fall must put themselves out. This quick test only tells you if a fabric burns really badly. It does not prove the fabric will pass strict lab tests like NFPA 701. To be sure about fire safety, you need proper testing in a certified lab.
Additional Information:
Shelf life of up to 5 years when stored properly between 45-110° F. Leaves no nasty chemical odors Does not release harmful fumes Will not affect the color or appearance of the treated material Dries quickly without leaving any residue. Meets applicable standards – NFPA 255, NFPA 701, UL 723, and CA Title 19 1237.1 Materials treated with Flamex PF are non-toxic to humans and animals.
